Real Lives. Real People.
The Impact
Emotional Care
Many Cambodians continue to heal from the deep scars left by the Khmer Rouge. The poor in Cambodia have very difficult lives and we do our best to walk beside each and everyone of them every day. Unfortunately, unexpected deaths are normal in the lives of those we serve. In those moments, in the midst of our own pain, we do our best to comfort. Not only did we pray with and for these kids, we let them know that we care and that we are sharing in their pain.
Education
One of our dorm students from the Path recently received a very high score on the National Exam. This entitled her to a scholarship to university. Not only was her family proud and excited, so were the people of her home village. Most of the villagers had very little, if any education. The fact that one of their own did so well changed the attitude of the ENTIRE village towards education. Several of them declared, “All of our kids need to get an education!”
Spiritual Investment
At our ministry center, we use age-appropriate curriculum to teach children about the Bible daily. We lead them in worship through singing and prayer in their own language. Additionally, in four other locations throughout Battambang, we hold weekly Bible studies where individuals come to faith in Jesus and learn to follow Him.
Physical Care
Roots of Grace does this in many ways including medical and dental care for those in our ministry. However, the most tangible way is that we feed 80+ students breakfast and lunch everyday. Most of these students would not have regular meals outside of this provision.
Meet Dara
Stories From the Field
Dara is the younger brother of a student at Roots of Grace. He’s adorable, right? We invite you to look at his picture a little closer, See the scrapes on his head? When you live on the streets in a third world country, a simple cut or scrape can quickly become serious or even life-threatening without prompt medical care. In addition to sharing the Gospel and helping with education, Roots of Grace provides for physical needs by giving the kids meals and getting medical care for those that need it.
Transforming Hearts
See how Jesus is
We were sitting on the street together in Bible study when Leakena started wrestling with the Good News of Jesus Christ. She wanted to know what following this Jesus looked like. Makara, a woman maybe 10 years older, started to share with Leakana. Makara asked Leakena, “Do you remember how I used to be mean?” Leakena responded, “I do. You were so mean to everyone.” Makara asked, “What about now? Am I still mean?” Leakena paused and thought for moment and said “No. You are actually nice and patient with others.” Makara quickly added, “That is because of Jesus!”
